For plein air painters who like to travel light, the portable, compact ThumBox V4.0 has it all. Reminiscent of the original “cigar box” pochade boxes used for quick outdoor painting by 19th and early 20th century painters, the original ThumBox included a special thumbhole in the bottom so it could be hand-held while painting — hence the name, “Thumbox.” The slim new design makes it easier than ever to take the ThumBox V4.0 on the go. Based on an ultra-light pochade box that Carl Judson built while doing volunteer work in the back country of Bolivia in the 1990s, the ThumBox V4.0 still includes the high-quality features and accessories that made the original ThumBox so popular.
The updated 5×7 ThumBox V4.0 holds two wet 5" x 7" panels (1/8" or 1/4" thick) completely enclosed within its lid. It has a 1-1/2" deep storage compartment under the sliding palette and the lid adjusts to any position through a 180° arc. It also has extension clips which allow you to paint on panels larger than 5" x 7", a built-in tripod mount with rubber feet, and it comes with D-rings so you can attach a shoulder strap for easier transport. Its rugged, yet lightweight construction consists of strong basswood laminate with stainless steel screws, glued joints, and rustproof aluminum hardware.
This popular 5" x 7" size can be used in your lap or on a table and is also ideal for use with laptops and tablets. It measures 8" x 5-1/2" x 3" and weighs only 1-1/4 lb.
**Bag**- This zippered nylon tote includes a large exterior pocket with a Velcro closure for supplies, a small exterior pocket for an identification card or other small items, a mesh interior pocket for paints and brushes, and a nylon shoulder strap. It measures 11"W x 9" L x 4" D and weighs 1/2 lb. __Note__ – This tote is not intended for use with the original ThumBox.
